Jefferson Art Guild

Joyce Laporte is an oil painter with a passion for painting Louisiana, mainly New Orleans. She is basically self taught and has a strong belief in the "Old Masters" techniques. She has taken classes at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, and a myriad of workshops by nationally known artists, but her greatest influence has been nature itself. Being raised in New Orleans, she has always had a wealth of inspiration from which to work. She is enamored with the gardens, the houses, be it the shot guns uptown, the mansions on St. Charles, and ginger breads on Esplanade, City Park with its' majestic oaks, botanical gardens, bridges, Audubon Park and, of course, the French Quarter. It's endless... This city is art! Her work is among private and corporate collections. She has garnered numerous awards, her most prized being her painting of Destrehan Plantation chosen to represent their annual fall festival, where she was honored and signed 50 limited prints. The original hangs in their gift shop among other recipients such as Brad Thompson, Al Federico and Roger Carrington. Her work has been on exhibit at numerous galleries and venues throughout the city and river regions and is currently being shown at Gallery 308 on Magazine St. in New Orleans.
